Southern Christians To Honor Michael Vick

Umm.. did you read that title right?  Yeah, you did.  The Southern Christian Leadership Conference plans to honor Michael Vick, dogfighter extrordinaire, at their 49th annual convention.

I'm still blinking and rubbing my eyes… what are they thinking?  Yeah, I know he has not been convicted of anything yet.  But has he done anything that warrants being honored?

There are some pretty sickening charges against Micheal Vick right now.  Would the proper thing to do be:

a)  Shut up until his trial is finished and see if he's acquited;
b)  Actually come out and say that he's accused of some terrible things;
c)  Throw him a sexy party and glorify the good, bad and ugly sides of Michael Vick

Vick was indicted on July 18th on charges of running a dogfighting ring out of a home he owned in Virginia.  He claims he owned the property but had nothing to do with the dogfighting.  His co-defendants though, seem ready to sing in court.  We'll have to see what happens.

If convicted Vick could face 5 years in prison.  And if guilty he deserves every day of it and more.  The Falcon's quarterback could also have to pay $250,000 in fines if found guilty of the charges.  A drop in the bucket and hardly enough, I would say.

High profile speakers such as Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Jesse Jackson are planned at the event.  I wonder if they will be singing praises of Michael Vick?

Sickening, I tell you, absolutely sickening.

    :| I’ll agree with your ’sickening’ assessment.

    Thanks for pointing the spotlight at this!

    This group is trying to get at Michael Vick’s money. They could care less about Vick or dogfighting. They are sadly veiwing this as an opportunity to get some money under the disguise of GOD. Bad move on this group’s part. Everyone should know what the Southern Leadership Conference is all about. This group has ties with Rev. Henry Lyons, who was found guilty of racketeering. So, in a way, this group has plenty in common with Vick

    The head of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP,
    President R.L. White, ask the NFL, Falcons and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from
    his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.
    Maybe the NAACP should ask the fans if they
    would get more enjoyment seeing Vick mauled by wild angry dogs.
    Maybe the NAACP forgot about how he knowingly
    gave a woman herpes.
    Maybe the NAACP forgot about his giving fans
    the middle finger.
    Maybe the NAACP forgot that VICK is a liar
    when he lied in April to the NFL commissioner.
    Maybe the NAACP wants to be a friend to VICK
    who killed mans’ best friend.
    Maybe the NAACP should give him a job as a representative of the NAACP.
