The Librarian Is Serious - Return Those Books On Time!

by Truthie Email

library booksKeely Givhan of Beloit, Wisconsin has learned a serious lesson - the hard way.

Givhan recently spent 6 days in jail because she failed to return her library books and her family couldn't afford to pay the fine. The library director says that their policy is to send three notices and after that a citation can be issued. And in this case it was.

While the library was sending her the notices, Givhan was in the process of moving. She says she didn't receive the notices. Since she didn't show up for her court date regarding the library fines, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

So later, Givhan was pulled over by a traffic cop and it was discovered that she had this outstanding warrant and she was taken to jail.

Remember to return your library books on time! These librarians are very serious about it.

ohhh what the...
Well, some lessons we have to learn the hard way, this is just another proof that we shouldn't take lil things for granted. Even the pettiest of things could get you in big trouble and teach you a lesson you'd never forget.

Alexis.. yeah.. I'm just wondering how much the fines must have been for her family to not have enough money to pay them and let her sit in jail for 6 days instead! She must have been waaaaay overdue with some expensive books!

Poor fella..

Not really, no. I saw on the TV that someone had to go to jail because she hasn't paid some cents on a communication bill for months lol

Michael - Wow.. going to jail over a few pennies? I didn't think that was possible. Just think if it was a three strikes offense.. Life in prison for under $1?

Yeah, I'm wondering how much the fines could have been.

We have it pretty good in my county, there are no fines at all.

Fab: So I guess you just keep the books you want, huh? That makes it a free bookstore! The next time I need a book I'll let you know so you can go get it from the library for me.

Wow talk about bad luck. Well if you can really call it that since they brought it upon themselves. That is still insane though.
