This is very heartwarming, and a very nice idea! It's heartbreaking to think of so many great animals that can't find homes. So I donated 6 bags, equal to my weight. LOL, now everyone will know how much we weigh!

Brian,

Thanks so much for helping out! LOL.. you didn't have to tell me how much you donated if you don't want to reveal your weight. :) I appreciate you participating in this. It's close to my heart.

What a wonderful idea! I'm from Canada so is it alright if I just donate to my local animal shelter? I think I'm going to mention this idea to my confirmation class and see if I can get the kids in on it. It's a great way for them to learn about kindness and giving.

Thanks for keeping us informed that the animals at the shelters need our help. Last year when we adopted a kitten, we donated the food back to the shelter. I did donate dry cat food from science diet to our local shelter.

I am going to check out my local shelter to participate. i would love to get a kitty as well but my apartment for some strange reason said no pets at all even though all surrounding buildings have cats and dogs. it frustrates me that we can't. my heart aches for the animals trapped in shelters and i'm all alone in my big apartment. Thanks for this information i would of never been aware of this if you didn't point it out.

Great idea.
I only wish you had omitted the company name or verified the facts before you did damage to a good company.
I recommend you forward the email to snopes.com, they are the experts at tracking down email information and publishing the facts.

You may delete this comment if you wish, but I hope you might edit your post to reaffirm that you do not know for a fact that what you say is true.

Again: great idea, no matter what the motivation.

complicious: It sounds like you have a really big heart. Thanks for doing what you can to help. :)

GoingLikeSixty: I called Pedigree and attempted to verify the information and they could only verify for me that the bags of food are given out with adoptions. I don't think you quite understood my post as I DID say that I am waiting for an answer from Pedigree. And as for doing damage to a company? Check yourself... I just bought 10 bags of food from them and said they MATCH my donation and the link I give for donations is the match program link TO PEDIGREE. I have in NO WAY slandered them or damaged their reputation by saying that they may have discontinued one of their programs and that I am trying to verify what is what. In the meantime I decided to help. Since when is buying from a company and encouraging others to do so considered damaging a company? Obviously you did not throughly read this post, nor did you try to follow the link to donate, and that's too bad. There are animals that need our help and that's what this post is all about.

Wow...okay...I'm doing it backwards, but I'm blogging about this now and then I'm going to go to the shelter today and donate food. I have two bags in my garage and will write a check for more. I do donate to the shelter every year via the United Way directed giving. But I know that they are in need year round.

I'm doing this in honor of my three cats and one dog adopted from the shelter - I started adopting when I was 18.

Castocreations - Thank you! It is so wonderful that you make regular donations too. I really appreciate your participation and I know the animals do too.

That's a good campaign to help the animals! Though they are just animals, they will also appreciate the love and care we give to them and they need that. :)

I'm so glad I found your post - my dog just passed away yesterday. She was 15 1/2 yrs old, and such a sweet dog, we loved her very much. Donating to the shelters will be a wonderful way to honor her memory. Donated 200 lbs and 3 box of treats

Lady Rose: I am so sorry to hear that you lost your dog. I have a 15 year old Whippet and it is really difficult knowing that she is nearing the end, but I am happy for every day we have with her. Thank you so much for participating in this challenge. That was so kind of you. I love your blog and visit almost every day.
